Jack is a really exceptional leader and engineer. Jack is a very calm and kind leader who understands people (including himself) very well. He’s also one of the most thoughtful people I’ve worked with when it comes to self-development: he takes this extremely seriously and as a result is constantly growing. Jack always strives to be better than he is in pretty much everything he does, and somehow seems to keep on managing to do just that.

I’ve had the privilege of working alongside Jack for many years. Jack consistently demonstrates a remarkable talent for pragmatic action, readily taking the lead on technical implementations. His keen interest in the business implications of his work sets him apart. Jack’s sociability and willingness to embrace risk have been key to his success. In three words: ambitious, technical, and charismatic.

Jack is a world class leader in technology in general and artificial intelligence in particular. I have known Jack now for over 7 years. He is a curious and smart person who tackles challenging problems with a high standard of engineering. He is an experience and empathetic leader, growing people under him and empowering them to deliver impactful work. People previously managed by Jack have only good things to say about him! He’s always had a keen eye to find or create opportunities to deliver impact as evidenced by his long string of launches in products used by millions and billions of people.

Amongst the many world-class researchers and engineers we were privileged to work with, Jack stood out in his ability to span fundamental research, product development, user testing, people management, and relationship management. This breadth of experience enabled him to consistently deliver real-world impact across a wide variety of Google products.

As a colleague Jack is friendly, sincere, low-ego, technically competent, and continually curious. His leadership on the projects I worked with him on resulted in some of the most harmonious teams I’ve had the pleasure to be a part of.

By continually stepping out of his comfort zone, Jack has developed and demonstrated his ability to do exactly that across a wide variety of domains and cultures.

I had the pleasure of working with Jack during my time at Deepmind. Throughout our collaboration, he consistently impressed me with his deep expertise in machine learning, his passion for solving complex problems, and his exceptional ability to deliver high-quality results. Jack’s technical skills are outstanding. He has a strong command of various ML algorithms and frameworks, and he is always up-to-date on the latest advancements in the field. He is also an excellent communicator and collaborator, and he is always willing to share his knowledge with others. During our time together, Jack made significant contributions to various billion users Google products. He was instrumental in many of the key Google ML innovations, which resulted in significant movement in product metrics. I was particularly impressed with his ability to think creatively. I have no hesitation in recommending Jack for any machine learning engineering role. He is a talented and dedicated professional who would be a valuable asset to any team.

While working with Jack at DeepMind, I was most impressed by his appetite for growth. This was demonstrated in very explicit ways, for example by asking questions about leadership or collaboration, or by suggesting our whole leadership team read a specific book about leadership. Jack also demonstrated his appetite for growth in implicit ways - by taking challenging projects, by working through challenging collaboration or management issues, rather than bypassing them.

What I know about Jack is that he is courageous, he is a good leader, and above all he has a voracious appetite for growth. Because of these reasons I am comfortable recommending Jack for leadership roles within his technical domain - applied machine learning. I would be comfortable recommending Jack for stretch roles, as I’ve seen in the past that he has an ability to adapt and scale to meet any challenge, and I know he will not quite until he has achieved the outcomes he expects.

I feel extremely fortunate to have had the chance to work with Jack over the past 3 years. I watched him build our team from zero, with a unique leadership style blending full transparency, outstanding ML expertise, and leading by example. He’s one of the few AI leaders today who can clearly see the big picture, and still jump deep into technical details at any time.

Most inspiring to me was his work ethic and dedication to continuous learning. He simply never stops! He is able to distill extremely challenging and ambiguous problems to their core, transforming his extensive experience into pragmatic, concrete next steps.

I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing Jack’s exceptional leadership in machine learning firsthand. He has a combination of deep technical understanding and the ability to translate complex concepts into actionable strategies. Jack fosters a collaborative and growth-oriented environment, empowering his team to push the boundaries of what’s possible. His ability to understand and anticipate industry trends, and then guide the development of cutting-edge ML solutions makes him a highly respected and sought-after leader in the field.

Jack is one of the best software professionals I have ever come across, if not the best. He is an excellent programmer and architect. Not only does he write beautiful software, his pace is terrifying. He can write you an application a day. I would highly recommend Jack and I hope to have to privilege to work with him in the future.

All I can say about Jack is - You tell him a word and he understands the whole sentence. I had the pleasure of working with him for a short period, but I was amazed at his skills and the passion behind doing something cool and functional. Jack come up with unimaginable solutions.
